Happy World Gratitude Day

World Gratitude Day

"We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives." - John F. Kennedy

The quote above came to mind for me, when I realized that today (September 21st) is World Gratitude Day. I'll be honest, I did not know this holiday existed until recently. By searching on the internet, I learned this holiday started in Hawaii when a group of people thought it would be a good idea to set aside one day per year to formally express thanks and appreciation for the many wonderful things in the world. (Random trivia: In Hawaii, the way to say thanks is “Mahalo”.)

Everyone is always busy it seems with work, school, family, and social obligations. Sometimes we are too busy to even say “thank you”. World Gratitude Day is a great opportunity for us all to take time to appreciate things, people, or places that we may overlook in our day to day lives. This includes being thankful for the many Red Cross volunteers around the world.

So here is a big THANK YOU to the 13 million volunteers in 187 countries who support the American Red Cross.

If you want to learn how to say “thank you” in different languages, watch this great video here.

What are you thankful for on World Gratitude Day?

P.S. Is anyone else grateful that in two days it is fall? Because I am!
